Thrive in 2025 - A Journey to Flourish
2025 is just around the corner, and with it comes the promise of new beginnings, goals, and dreams. We are entering a milestone moment—a quarter of this century is already behind us. While I know I won’t see the end of this century, I realize that I still have so many years ahead of me. That’s why I’m determined to set myself up for the next 25 years to be the best they can possibly be.
As I sat down to reflect on what I hope to achieve in the coming year, one word stood out to me above all others: thrive. It’s a powerful word that encapsulates growth, vitality, and living life to the fullest. For me, this word isn’t just a goal—it’s a mindset, a mission, and a promise to myself, my family, and my community.
The idea of choosing a "word of the year" isn’t new; it’s something I’ve seen from mommy bloggers and personal development speakers who have been in our feeds for the past decade. Inspired by their examples, I’ve embraced this practice myself for several years, using each word as a compass to guide my intentions and actions.
In the past, I’ve chosen words like "NO" to remind myself that I can set boundaries and say no to things that don’t serve me. Saying yes to everything—even when I didn’t want to—was a major factor in my burnout. Then came "Reduce," which encouraged me to cut down on time spent scrolling social media or watching mindless TV and to declutter my home. Most recently, I chose "Grow" as my word for 2024. I wanted to grow personally, and I also wanted to take the leap to grow the business that had been on my mind for years.
Thriving means embracing opportunities for growth while letting go of habits or mindsets that no longer serve me. It’s about finding balance in the chaos, cultivating joy in the everyday, and making intentional choices that lead to a healthier, happier life. This year, I want to embody the essence of thriving not just for my own sake, but as a way to inspire those around me—especially my daughters and the moms I work with through Momcations.co. Thriving is about showing up fully and authentically, no matter the challenges or setbacks, and committing to living with purpose and passion every single day.
Why "Thrive"?
Choosing a word of the year is something I’ve done before, but this year feels different. At 42, I recognize that thriving is about embracing the stage of life I’m in while paving the way for a healthier, happier future. Thriving means prioritizing my health, my family, and my dreams—all while staying true to my authentic self. It’s about doing more than just surviving; it’s about flourishing.
For my daughters, thriving means modeling a lifestyle that’s rooted in balance and well-being. I want them to see a mom who is energized, confident, and unapologetically dedicated to self-care. For my business, it means pouring my energy into Momcations.co and showing other moms that they too can reconnect with themselves beyond motherhood.
Personal Goals: Thriving in Health
My personal goal for 2025 is to make a conscious effort to get into better health. Over the past two years, I haven’t been getting much movement, and I can feel the difference in my body. While I already prioritize sleep—and it’s one of the best things I’ve done for myself—I know it’s time to focus on adding regular activity back into my routine.
That’s why I’m setting a goal to walk 25 minutes a day. Walking is simple, manageable, and something I truly enjoy. Whether I’m outside enjoying nature or on the treadmill, I’ll use that time to listen to a podcast or audiobook, making it a moment of relaxation and enrichment. This effort isn’t about achieving perfection; it’s about committing to consistency and showing up for myself every day. Thriving means giving my body the movement it needs to feel strong, energized, and alive.
Professional Goals: Thriving in Business
Thriving in 2025 also means focusing on the growth of Momcations.co. My mission has always been to provide moms with guilt-free getaways, helping them reconnect with themselves and rediscover their passions. In the coming year, I’m excited to:
Host More Group Trips: Including the "More Than Just a Mom" group cruise and a small group tour of Ireland.
Build Connections: Expanding my network through collaborations, social media, and community outreach.
Incorporate Authenticity: Sharing more of my personal journey with my audience to show that thriving is achievable for every mom.
Thrive as an Example
My daughters are watching everything I do, and I want to show them that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams or focus on self-improvement. I have worked very hard on trying to be a good example to my girls for many reasons. For one, I never speak badly about my body in front of them. We all know how the 90s and early 2000s shaped unhealthy body image views, and I want to break that cycle. We never label foods as "bad" unless they’ve actually gone off or grown mold. Instead, we talk about choosing foods that fuel our bodies and give us energy. But let’s be honest—there are tough days when we vote as a family to have ice cream for dinner. It’s all about balance.
I also show them that it’s okay to take time for yourself. Whether it’s been a long day at work or school and you want to put on comfy clothes and veg out, or like me, when you need a full break and take a Momcation. One day, they might be mothers, and I want them to know it’s okay to step away, recharge, and prioritize their own well-being. It’s a lesson I hope stays with them forever.
Now that I’m starting this new business, I hope to show them by example that they can build any life they want. I encourage them to support each other’s goals and aspirations, just as I’m pursuing mine. I tell them about the amazing women and mothers I’ve met on my journey so far and the inspiring stories I’ve heard. I want them to see that the world is vast and full of possibilities beyond the small town we live in.
In truth, trying to be a good example to my girls motivates me to do better for myself. Kids are always watching, and they learn by seeing what we do, not just what we say. Knowing this keeps me focused on living with intention and authenticity.
Final Thoughts
As I look ahead to 2025, I’m filled with hope and determination. Thriving isn’t just a destination; it’s a journey. It’s about making small, meaningful changes every day that add up to a life filled with joy, health, and purpose. I hope this year, you’ll join me in choosing to thrive—whatever that looks like for you.
Let’s make 2025 a year to remember.
